August Meeting

At our August 11, 2012 meeting, Jen Wang will provide us with a discussion on the topic of burlesque. The discussion will be appropriate for the public venue of a library, however due to the subject matter this will be a PG-13 discussion.

Jen explains that the 1920s and 30s were the golden age of burlesque, and the shows included more than just striptease. This discussion will explore burlesque’s evolution from musical comedy to racy shows that ran the risk of being shut down by police and learn about the most well-known stars of the era. We’ll also learn a bit about the neo-classical revival of today and how it pays tribute to the past.

We’ll meet at our regular time, 3:00pm until 6:00pm, at The Manske Library (Meeting Room), 13613 Webb Chapel, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234.
